What are your thoughts on India? You can ask questions too?

Hi, Munn... Welcome!
Two things...
1--Do you know the Gospel For Asia mission in India? If so, would you talk about their work there?
2--By the way, I see that PBS here in the USA is starting a series on India. You will probably be able to see it at their web site:
http://www.pbs.org/thestoryofindia/
--I am looking forward to seeing it. I would be interested if you gave your opinion from a Christian perspective after watching the first one of the series.

Hmmm interesting you should ask. Right now, I am praying and considering a mission trip to India with my church for this summer in July. Your post is very timely and more than likely a tool of God for me and my decision.
I want to know what missionaries should be aware of as we to go to India...as far as what to do and what not to do.
I also want to know the reachability (if that's a word) of the Moslem people there in India. I believe we will be going to Calcutta.
Where are you from in India? Were you and your family always Christian, or do you have another background in another religion or way of life?
Thanks for posting. It's always nice to see our international brothers and sisters here on this site.
Thanks,
Mayflower

I have co-workers in India selling tower cranes, huge market for construction.
We have an agent there called Spartan in your country. I will go visit them sometime after Chinese lunar new year.
I am very much interested in going to India, she seems so mysteriously beautiful to me.
Hey, we might end up seeing each other.[/img]

Yes I heard about Gospel for Asia but do not know much about it. In India Gospel distribution is uneven, 80% of Christians are in the South, I am in South East India. There are some indigenous missionary organizations which work in North India Gospel for Asia could be one of them.
I don't get to see PBS here in India but I went thru the synopsis on the website. India has lots of diversity and atleast 5000 years of History behind it. From a Christian perspective I can say that most Indians revere God in their OWN way.

Hey meeting you in India would be great. India is developing just like China so lots of Infrastructure growth which would need heavy construction equipment.
As I mentioned in an other post India has a lot of diversity, its got three races, that is in different parts of India people can look differently and also there are atleast 20 major languages and 1600 dialects so it is fascinating.
Btw I am in Andhra Pradesh, Vizag, which part of India is your company located?

Gospel For Asia is an indigenous group run my K.P. Yohannan...all native missionaries...thouusands. It is very cost-efficient requiring only about $1000 a year to support a full time missionary there, whereas a non-native Christian missionary requires $20-40k, on up, for annual support!

I am being sincere and never mean offense. Please read what I type with assuming I mean only positive things or heart felt questions.
Actually my experiences with people from India have been horrible.
At work I have worked with three different Indian Post docs and it has been miserable for me.
I usually get along fine with people. So far every international person that I have worked with I have had a great relationship with. Except people from India.
Again I have only worked with three people, and it would be unfair to judge an entire country based on three people.
Common factor is that they have been from the priest cast and think they are gods. Maybe that is what causes such a clash to me whom is an American that believes in equality between all.
Another problem that I have is that I believe in Jesus and do not believe in people being gods.
I have been watching the PBS series on TV about India. To learn more about the culture.
God Bless,
Evelyn

Munn75 Brother, the place I am going is called Asansol, near Culcata.
I am leading a technical team to fix some technical problems of one 2200tm tower crane, sold to an iron factory by the agent.
Even though Munn75 is the only India people I ever talked to, I wish I could jump to lump all India people into my assumption: India, Incredible India ...

I am active member/ supporter of a missionary organization Friends Missionary Prayer Band (FMPB) which is indigenous and accepts funding only from Indians for evangelization, as per law. Yes native missionaries not only cost less but can achieve more dollar for dollar.

Hi Evelyn, I am really sorry about your bad experience with some Indians.
Whether it be in the US or India or anywhere else, when you are a real Christian, you are different and people around us are not always comfortable with us. At times there could be a strain in the working relationship due to our values. It happens to me in India as well.
I dont know if this can comfort you but please read this testimony of my friend Ravi (protruth.wordpress.com), it might give you hope that some these tough guys are actually accepting Christ.
