Interviews and answering tough questions of who you really a
|
Hiyas everyone!
I am preparing for an interview for graduate school. My dates are the 18 and 19 for the interview process. I am so excited about the entire process.
However, I am having a difficult time preparing myself for the interview.
Trying to answer such fundemental questions as to why I want to be a scientist is tough.
How have other people been in this tough position and how have you overcome any obstacles?
I know it is in God's hands and that he has a plan for my life. I just need to stay focused on God and all will work out.
I guess I am just a chatty type of person and enjoy disccusing things.
Thanks a bunch ,
Evelyn

To a question you already have an answer, all you need is a little bit of courage.
Study the guy who is going to interview you, if he/she is about your age, you might say, hi, I know you yourself are a very prominent scientist who conducted a great genetic research on Na’vi race from the star of Pandora. I have been tracking your progress and it would be such a big honor to work with you shoulder to shoulder. If he/she is much older than you are, you might say, hi, I know you yourself are very prominent scientist who conducted a great genetic research about Na’vi race from the star of Pandora. I have been tracking your progress and it would be such a great honor to learn from you.
Maybe the best answer to a question is not about the question itself but about the one who questions, his intention.
Fundamental questions are with no specific or fixed answers, the interviewers just want to listen to your blablablabla until they get a clue about your attitude toward something.
There is no right nor wrong, only what is possible...in this specific occasion.
It is highly recommend you praise those who interview you genuinely and indirectly.
Everybody has certain parts of his character worthy and in is in need of our praise.
Food for thought.

Focus on these things.
Your passion for your academia
Your reason for wanting to be in that program - never for more money
Your academic goals plus your career goals and your objectives for those goals.
Ask God to go before you and prepare the professor's heart and ask God to give you wisdom and courage and peace as you go through your interview. You do this last one first, and you can't go wrong.
I interview my new employees and I like to see someone who has alot of inner energy, is excited about the job, can prove to me they can do the job, and asks alot of questions about the job. You see, that proves to me that they have thought through their expectations of the job.

Good luck and may God be with you during this process.
Write down on cards key points. Write them out if it helps. Do this right before your interview. Also breath deeply and do breathing exercises lol....it will help with the jumble of nerves. I know my heart races and i lose total thought process and i go completely blank, no matter how prepared i am lol. But the more prepared you are, the easier the interview process will be. Put a lot of thought and time into it, and write them down on paper.
You will be fine. Just pray God gives you peace and a clear head. He will be standing right next to you holding your hand. You just need to reach out and grab on.

Thank you!

Thank you Ariona. Sometimes I fear that my heart felt compliments sound contrived. It is so sad how much people will lia to obtain where they want to be.
Thank you mayflower. I have been giving it all to God. God has opened up so many doors in my life already. It is great getting advice from someone that gives the interview. Bascially I have ambition and a can do attitude to give the department. Thank you for the questions to think about and the prays to say to God.
Thank you vixenkat_2001. The cue cards are a great idea.
I have to admit that I know this is what I want but I do not know how to express how I know or why to a secular professor. I have this feeling placed on my heart from God, now I need to learn how to express it. I do not hide my Christianity. It is tough dealing with secular athetist.
Another problem is that I do not know exactly what I want to do. I want to test out different model organisms (including mice ), however, my ultimate goal is to work on human diseases. I love animals but I must put humans above an animal.
Thank you everyone,
Love and God Bless,
Evelyn

Thanks!

I think it went well
I interviewed with four important scientist and each of them had a different personality.
I was myself. As the day went on my mind was exhausted and there was no fliter to my words ha ha.
Now it is in God's hands of what is right for me .
Thanks for all the support and suggestions and prays.
Love and God Bless,
Evelyn
